This is a store I have been to on a few occasions.  My first time was back in 2003 when I attempted to make a Japanese Soba Noodle dish after visiting Japan, and have been there a few times since.  There is something about Asian markets that make me smile...  I think it is the awesomely different packaging an language that is displayed on the exterior packaging of the foods that makes me love going inside.

The atmosphere of the store is compact and very well stocked.  The aisles are thin and seem claustrophobic.  I assume this is due to the high rent prices in Boulder and because of the natural tendencies of places like this to be very tight quartered.

The owner of the store was Maria Nguyen.  She is one of 3 people who work there and is there every day that the store is open.  She seems like a person that is absolutely on top of everything about this place!

There were no real noticeable similarities between what they sold and what I was used to seeing at the grocery store.  I was there to buy materials for my other project in this class and had to ask for Maria's help.  She was very helpful and I was able to find everything (with the exception of Sake) that I needed.  Everything I bought seemed overpriced and I was not about to try and bargain with her!  I think that EVERYTHING in the store was imported and that is what drove the prices up.

Again - I first gained a love for these types of foods when I went to Japan...  I loved the packaging and the way that they labeled things.  I think that is why I have been in this place so many times.  I know that I will be back to!  Thanks Maria!

I have known about this place forever!  It's right next to my favorite coin store in Boulder.  I grew up an avid coin collector.

A view inside the shop.  Only about 4 aisles, but packed.

This is what I bought from the market.  This was also for a project in this class!  I ended up making Tonjiru Soup with these materials that I bought, plus a pork belly from Safeway down the street.
